Description
When? What? How? This session will focus on how to evaluate whether a student’s words or actions constitute a threat against the school in order to determine the school’s course of action. The presentation, which will include a panel of practitioners, as well as a law enforcement representative and District Attorney, will include discussion points such as:
When can a student be disciplined for threats?
What, if any, First Amendment issues are implicated?
What are the standards for an administrator, SRO, or police officer to conduct a search on school property?
What are the best practices for working with law enforcement when both entities are investigating the same threat?
How should we handle requests from law enforcement for information?
