This session will consider questions such as: Can the County Commissioner of Health close a public school because the Commissioner deems it “unsafe”, because off mold, infectious disease, asbestos, or other perceived health & safety threats to students? What role does the Department of Health play with issues such as “head lice” or food contamination? What personally identifiable information regarding students/staff can be disclosed to the DOH with-out violating federal laws, such as FERPA or HIPPA? Legal precedent and case studies examining the relationship between public school districts and state and county health departments, including matters such as juris-diction and confidentiality will also be explored and discussed.
